Bennett Dam Hydro Power Station

The Bennett Dam complex is located in the Peace River area of British Columbia and is the site of one of the Worlds hydro projects at the time of its construction it was the largest loose fill dam in the world water that flows through it flows down the Peace Valley and into two other minor hydro Dams near the Hudson Hope township area. plans are to use the same water to power another dam that may be constructed over the next decade have been met with massive opposition from locals and those from far away the vast expanse needed to be flooded in the area is worth the drive to really comprehend the beauty and vastness of the future flood area.
My sister graciously drove me the three hours down the Peace River to view the site and to take the tour of Bennett Dam itself the staff were excellent and the tour was very interesting for someone who's usual view of hydro was a water mill turbine. If you visit make sure you try to generate your own electricity in their interpretative area. Makes you physically experience the difference between CFL energy saving bulbs and the regular incandescent bulb.
Take the underground tour and see some rare bat species as well as see giant rotors and Stators providing electricity for thousands of homes before your very eyes!
